APW - Waltham, Am'n Watch Co, Model 1862, 15J, 20S, heavy 18K gold original A.W.Co. HC with attractive engine turning and engraving detail, front shield engraved "Edward Mueller 1871," gold cuvette, white enamel SS dial with script "American Watch Co." signature, KWKS, gilt mvt, s#400559. Gross weight of assembled watch 100.4 dwt (156.1 g). An excellent example of this rare watch, the total production of Waltham's 20 size "Am'n Watch Co." grade is believed to be only 200 made per the NAWCC online Waltham serial number look-up. This example is also notably from Waltham's final run of 20 size production.
CONDITION:
Mvt: Running, fine cosmetic mvt condition overall, main plate with spot below "P" of "safety Pinion" marking, some mild small lesser surface spots elsewhere, some typical mild fine to micro-fine scratches; dial with short hl below seconds-register, short hl above seconds-register, small flakes to lower-right rim of seconds-register, few minuscule pinpoint edge flakes under bezel; excellent hands, minute with brass fitting ring at its center hub and with small bit of oxide to tip; case shows medium wear, ding toward lower-right of front, ding to band at 1:30, few scattered small nicks, full loss of engine turning detail to front and rear shoulders, attractive engraving detail with mild reduction, front lift spring not making contact with lid to fully opened position which allows lid to tilt back approximately half-way with gravity, rear hinge with small bit of play and missing one end-cap; tight bow, push shows medium wear; good glass crystal.
